St Albans Cathedral, located in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, is a remarkable Church of England cathedral showcasing exquisite Norman architecture.
Originally established as an abbey, it was dissolved in the 16th century and transitioned into a cathedral in 1877. Towering over St Albans City with its grand Gothic design, the cathedral is a prominent landmark and a popular destination for sightseeing.
The surrounding areas of St Albans adds to the charm, with its picturesque streets and lush gardens enhancing the cathedral’s timeless appeal.Living just a short 25-minute drive away in Hemel Hempstead, I’ve visited this area many times, and in October 2024, I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding in the cathedral for the first time.
The cathedral’s large stained glass windows and intricate interior details make it an outstanding venue for photography, providing dramatic lighting that adds depth and atmosphere to ceremony shots.
Once outside, the grounds offer countless backdrops for group and couple portraits. The surrounding gardens, centuries-old doors, and historic walls provide rich texture and character, creating striking compositions that bring a unique and memorable feel to every photo. The Gothic arches and timeless features make St Albans Cathedral one of the most stunning settings in Hertfordshire, for capturing unforgettable moments. I have provided some of my favourite example photographs from my time shooting at the Cathedral.
